Solutions for All of Your Web Handling Needs
~
accessories for the paper, film, and foil web converting and packaging industries ~

Core Shafts ~ Expanding Core Shafts ~ Air Shafts
Carbon Fiber Expanding Core Shafts ~ Metal Expanding Core Shafts ~ External Element (Strip) Core Shafts
Carbon Fiber Through Shafts ~ Pneumatic/Mechanical and Mechanical Expanding Core Shafts ~ Differential Rewind Core Shafts ~ Reel Spool Core Shafts

  • Carbon fiber core shaft housing provides the strength of steel at a fraction of the weight.
  • Housing sleeved in metal to protect against abrasion.
  • Special corded polyprene bladder expands with air to grip core ID. Robust bladder material reduces bladder failure and minimizes maintenance.
  • Deep journal insertion and a close tolerance fit ensure easy access when necessary.
  • Comprehensive two year warranty even includes bladder.
Metal Air Shaft
  • The core shaft has an air-activated internal bladder which forcse gripping lugs to grip the inner core diameter.
  • Proprietary corded polyprene bladder material resists puncture to reduce maintenance.
External Element Strip Shaft
  • Simple clamping unit secures bladder assembly for easy maintenance.
  • Durable hard rubber gripping elements offer excellent core grip.
  • Rugged Teflon strip protects bladder from damage.
  • Brass air valve will not corrode.
Mechanical Lug Shafts
  • For heavier roll weights and/or faster line speeds.
  • Independent lug action accommodates core variations.
  • Concentric expansion minimizes roll bounce; fail-safe operation guarantees roll security during production.
Differential Rewind Shaft
  • Delivers uniformly wound rolls, even with narrow and/or varying slit widths.
  • Works in low or high tension applications.
  • Individual bladders provide friction for gripping, but never create core dust – contamination is minimized.
Carbon Fiber Expanding Reel Spool Shaft
  • Much lighter in weight than expanding steel shafts; requires far less driving energy.
  • Carbon fiber housing allows faster critical speeds without increasing core size.
  • Pneumatic/mechanical system ensures true concentric expansion.

Core shafts are used throughout the converting and packaging industries to unwind and rewind web material. These core shafts usually expand to grip the inner diameter of a core to help control web tension. They are commonly known as expanding shafts or air shafts, but can also be called air bars, air mandrels, bladder shafts or lug shafts.

Whether you call your core shaft an air bar, an expanding mandrel, or a winding shaft, rest assured that Double E offers the right core shaft for your converting application.
