Differential Rewind Shafts

Double E offers several shafts for differential rewinding applications. Each model has specific strengths engineered for specific processes.

DRS-2000 Differential Shaft       Differential Shaft with Slit Rolls

Double E Differential Rewind Shafts ensure the highest winding quality even when rewinding very narrow rolls - down to a half inch in width. By maintaining proper tension on all rolls throughout the winding operation, material doesn’t sag, stretch, or tear. Consequently, the Double E differential rewind shafts improve productivity and profitability.

  • Rolls of varying slit widths can be wound in a single operation.
  • Loading cores and unloading wound rolls is quick and easy.

Spacerless Design
• Clutch/friction rings lock slit rolls in place.
• Slipping occurs internally on central shaft – no spacers between slits, so core dust and core damage are minimized.

Large Diameter Central Shaft (e.g. 60mm ø for 3” shaft)
• Higher load capacity and faster critical speed.

Various Friction Strips
• Accommodate low, medium, and high tension applications.

Ball Type Friction Rings
• Easier to load empty cores and unload slit rolls off of shaft.

The Differential Rewind Problem
Differences in material thickness and winding tension often arise when rewinding foils, laminates, plastics, and other materials. These variations can result in different lengths and tension requirements when rewinding smaller rolls on the same rewind shaft. After only a few winding rotations the center of some small rolls may be too tight while others may show sagging, making the quality of the end product unacceptable.
